This recording of Vivaldi's Four Seasons violin concertos is ad hoc in more ways than one. The only name listed on the cover is that of violinist Alexandra Conunova, who, in the midst of the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, assembled a one-off group of players in Switzerland. There is no shortage of recordings of these concertos, but this one has an unusual feature: Conunova begins not with the Violin Concerto in E major, Op. 8, No. 1 ('Spring'), but in medias res with the 'Fall' concerto. No explanation for this is given, although it does result in the placement of the 'Summer' finale, arguably the movement that Vivaldi's audiences would have found the most striking, as the final climax of the whole set. Conunova has been touted as a talent to watch, and those interested in her developing career may find this bold release of interest.

Following from her 2015 release Prokofiev Sonatas, Vivaldi’s Quattro Stagioni is a CD conceived and recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic and the confinement period, following the outrageous YouTube succès with over 8 Mln views of the Vivaldi recording 2015 with the Geneva International Orchestra, out of the desire to prove and send a signal to the society, nothing is impossible even during most difficult times , and as an hommage to Alexandra’s public and followers who so dearly supported and encouraged her during the lockdown period.
With its incredible range of characters ,emotions and colors, Vivaldi’s Le Quattro Stagioni reflects what many have been feeling and experiencing during the recent months. In support and solidarity of community and music, Alexandra performed charity concerts for her neighborhood throughout the lockdown period in Lausanne throughout March to June 2020 performing repertoire from Vivaldi to Piazzola on her balcony, an initiative celebrated not only by the local but also the international press.
